Asphalt fails from underneath.
Almost every alligatored parking lot and rutted private road you have driven over failed because the base under it was too thin, was not compacted, or sat in water. The asphalt itself is the last two inches of a job that is mostly dirt work.
Because we are an earthwork contractor first, the base under our paving is built the way we build a structural pad: stripped, proof rolled, placed in lifts, compacted and drained. Then the asphalt goes on top of something worth paving.

What people ask before they call.
Asphalt or concrete for a long driveway?
Asphalt is usually cheaper up front and easier to repair in sections. Concrete lasts longer and handles standing heavy loads better. On a long rural drive asphalt normally wins on cost per foot.
Can you fix a road that is already breaking up?
Sometimes. If the base is sound it can be overlaid. If the base failed, patching the surface is money spent twice, and we will tell you which one you are looking at.
