Ground work

Leveling and excavation.

Cut, fill and grade to plan. We have moved dirt on this side of Houston long enough to know what the ground does before we open it.

Around here the soil is the whole problem.

Gulf Coast clay swells when it is wet and shrinks when it is dry, and it does not forgive a pad that was thrown together. Sand drains but will not hold a slope. Most sites around Crosby give you some of both, sometimes in the same acre, which is why a number off a plan sheet is not the same as a number that works.

We cut to the elevations on the drawing, balance the site so you are not paying to import fill you already own, and grade so water leaves the way the civil drawing says it should. Where a site does not behave, we call it before we bury it, not after your slab is down.

Worth knowing

If the plan and the ground disagree, we stop and call you. Building on to a bad assumption is how a cheap job turns into an expensive one.

Included in the scope

Cut and fill

Balanced on site wherever the volumes allow, so you are not buying and hauling dirt twice.

Rough and finish grade

To plan elevations, checked as we go rather than at the end.

Import and export

Select fill brought in or surplus hauled off, whichever the balance calls for.

Drainage falls

Graded so water runs where the drawing says, including swales and roadside ditching.

Trenching

Utility and drainage trenching, backfilled and compacted in lifts.

Large acreage

Full-section development work for builders and land developers.

Questions

What people ask before they call.

Can you work from a civil engineer's drawings?

Yes. Most of our developer work runs off engineered plans, and we will flag anything on the drawing that will not work on that particular piece of ground.

Do you haul in fill?

Yes, when the site will not balance. We would rather balance on site where the volumes allow, because imported select fill is one of the larger line items on a dirt job.
